Road Rage is out today. It’s the second single from Pendulum, the fourth album by Martti Vesala Soundpost Quintet and the group’s first for Mustik Motel Music. The full album follows on 15 October on vinyl, CD and digital.

Road Rage was inspired by the feeling of driving in a busy afternoon rush hour with all the headlights and traffic lights flashing. The song is based on a short riff (or motif) performed by the rhythm section with distorted Rhodes and a big drum sound. It also introduces the wonderful driving sound of the electric bass played by Juho Kivivuori – this is the first time this particular instrument is featured on a Martti Vesala Soundpost Quintet composition. The sound of the trumpet is heavily processed with distortion and delay, expressing the urgency and frustration caused by slow-moving traffic.
